Self-propelling Wheelchairs

A self-propelling wheelchair is designed so the user can move independently using the large rear wheels, which are fitted with hand rims. These chairs usually have smaller front castors for manoeuvrability, a lightweight but sturdy frame and reliable brakes for control and safety. They are ideal for people who wish to maintain independence, build strength and move around both indoors and outdoors.

Transit Wheelchairs

Transit wheelchairs are designed to be pushed by a caregiver. They have smaller rear wheels without hand rims, making them compact, easy to fold and simple to transport. They are often used for appointments, short journeys or when someone cannot safely self-propel. A range of seat widths and options ensure a comfortable fit for the individual.

Tilt-in-space Wheelchairs

Tilt-in-space wheelchairs allow the whole seat and backrest to tilt as one unit, keeping the hip and knee angles the same. This helps redistribute pressure, support posture and improve comfort for people who spend long periods in their chair or have limited trunk control. These chairs are usually pushed by a caregiver and are available in different sizes and configurations to match individual clinical needs.

Powered Wheelchairs

Powered wheelchairs are driven by electric motors and controlled with a joystick or alternative control system. They are ideal for people who cannot safely or comfortably self-propel over distance. Many powered chairs offer modular seating so the system can be adapted if needs change over time. Choosing the right powered wheelchair is essential, and we always complete a full assessment before making a recommendation.

Active User Wheelchairs

Active user wheelchairs are lightweight, highly manoeuvrable manual wheelchairs for people who use their chair as a primary means of mobility and want to remain as independent as possible. They often feature rigid or folding frames, responsive handling and tailored seating. There is a very wide range of active chairs available, and we select models based on your goals, environment and clinical needs.

Powered Assist

Powered assist systems are add-on devices that can be fitted to certain manual wheelchairs to provide extra power when propelling or to help a companion push. They can be an excellent option for people who wish to remain in an active manual chair but need support on hills, ramps or over longer distances.

We work with a range of powered assist solutions and will recommend suitable options after a full assessment, taking into account your existing chair, strength, lifestyle and transport needs. If you are interested in powered assist, please get in touch to discuss this further.
