Frequently asked questions
There are many benefits to being assessed by The Wheelchair OTs. You will be assessed by an experienced Occupational Therapist who will be able to discuss solutions to your mobility needs ensuring that products recommended are suitable for your long-term needs. We also consider the needs of family members and friends to ensure the equipment is suitable for them to manage moving forward. There are many factors that come into our thinking before arriving at a product that is suitable and in turn successful to meet your desired outcomes. At The Wheelchair OTs we have experience of supporting individuals with minimal to complex postural and positioning needs. This understanding and knowledge means we can recommend wheelchairs that provide comfort and support a posture to enable as much function as possible, thus enabling the individual to be as engaged with activity as possible.
Yes, you can purchase wheelchairs directly through us. This means we can assess and supply the equipment required, providing an end-to-end solution.
We recognise that there are occasions when on-going support is required post purchasing equipment. This can be for a variety of reasons including, mechanical issues, equipment servicing or clinical needs changing. At the Wheelchair OTs we will support you post equipment provision to ensure the equipment continues to work well for you.
We aim to offer an assessment appointment within 10 days of the initial contact, sometimes even sooner. Following the assessment, we can advise on the waiting time on equipment as this can vary case to case depending on the equipment required. We have a rental option if equipment is required ASAP.
We are currently able to offer home assessments in East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey and Kent. If you are outside this area, please do contact us as we may be able to offer you an assessment or signpost you to a Wheelchair or seating specialist that can help.
Following the assessment, you can expect a copy of your summary of needs from the therapist. You will also be provided with a quote for the agreed equipment upon request. The therapist will provide you with a detailed quote for the recommended equipment.
We try, where possible, to avoid this, as in our experience it is not the same as being in the same room as yourself to capture all your individual needs.
Prices are standardised for each service provided. Please get in touch and we would be happy to share our prices with you.
Yes, we carry out assessments in the comfort of your own home. To ensure the wheelchair is right for you the environment plays an important role, so it is essential that this is assessed to make sure the wheelchair is compatible with where it will be frequently used.
